Where we started
We are a non-profit ministry that focuses on Spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ and building relationships while living the adventure of a lifetime!
Adventures In Christ Ministry began as a dream in the heart of our founder, David Dunbar. David is married to Elena, who is a Honduran native of Chinese descent. Though they live in Florida, David and his family have often visited Honduras over the years where they saw the need of God's people and felt the call to serve. While they began their ministry in Florida, a passion for Elena’s homeland was birthed. “We fell in love with Honduras and its children.”
David’s goal was to impact Honduras by ministering to the abandoned and underprivileged children. “We were called, and though at first it was overwhelming, we felt that God told us: 'Just keep doing what you have been doing; visit Honduras, bring family (God’s Family), have some fun and talk about Me (GOD).' And that is how Adventures in Christ began.
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.
The goal at Adventures in Christ Ministry is to Spread the Gospel of Jesus while building leaders and establishing lasting relationships in Honduras! We believe going on an adventure with AICM is one way to answer the call of James 1:27 – which is our mission statement.
Our current focus is to develop the land as a sustainable farm and camp for the the kids of HHK and the ministries of the Cangrejal River Valley in northern Honduras.
We took our first official mission trip in the summer of 2012. In 2015, opportunities opened to partner with HHK and a local church, Eagle's Nest Church, along with their ministry to the villages of Bonatillo and Jutiapo. We also focus on visiting Military bases in LaCeiba and have been given the opportunity to expand our ministry with a public school outreach in partnership with Marjie Dipp. In 2018, AICM began to sponsor 2 full time missionaries and 1 part-time missionary to serve HHK in the care of 28 children at the Hogar de Amor. Today our work continues to grow through our partnerships in Honduras allowing us to impact hundreds of children and families in meaningful and life saving ways.
about helping Honduras kids
Helping Honduras Kids (HHK) is one of our primary partners in Honduras. They are a non-profit Christian organization that manages a Children's Home (orphanage), caring for 23+ children who have been abandoned, abused and/or neglected. They also built and operate a free private school (Jungle School) located in the impoverished mountain area outside of La Ceiba just minutes from our AICM property.
Over 240 students grades K-9th attend the Jungle School. There they receive a quality education, daily devotional, and a nutritious lunch. In addition to the school, HHK provides much needed food to children and families in nearby Campesinos (peasant villages) and we participate in each of these ministries on each trip we take.
They receive no government funding and are in great need of sponsors who will help support a child in need. You can find out more about HHK and and how to sponsor a child by clicking here.
